Upcoming Performances

Friday, April 27, 2012 - MEL MARTIN w/ A TRIBUTE TO THE FABULOUS DORSEY BROTHERS FEATURING THE JIMMY DORSEY ORCHESTRA@The Gallo Center for the Arts - 2:00PM Mary Stuart Rogers Theater

In the storied history of the Big Band Era, the orchestras led by Dorsey brothers, Jimmy and Tommy, carved out a chapter that rivals any of their contemporaries, from Glenn Miller to Benny Goodman to Artie Shaw. The Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra alone had memorable hits including Amapola, Maria Elena, Green Eyes, Change Partners, Tangerine, Besame Mucho, and So Rare. The orchestra today is led by Bill Tole, who recaptures the energy of the Dorsey band while infusing it with a sweet, smooth, sentimental style that transports the audience from the 1940s right through the decades to the present day. Tole, who himself performed with Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald and Bing Crosby, will be joined in this rousing concert by Mary Ann Mobley, one of the very few former Miss Americas who has achieved success in television and film as well as the stage.
